I've been making my dresses for ballroom dance competitions for a decade now, but I haven't made a new dress since 2006. I'm in desperate need of a new one, but at the same time I've had the biggest mental block about starting a dress.
For some reason the block completely dissolved today, to the point where I was seized with the insane idea that I could start a dress at 2:30 on a Friday afternoon and have it ready to wear at 10:00am on the next Sunday morning. I got down to work, and might have actually achieved some level of success, except I made a really stupid fabric choice. Oh, the fabric was beautiful, but it wasn't the right kind of stretchy. I thought I could make it work and I couldn't.
At least now I'm wanting to sew again! For a peek at past projects, check out my DanceSport Image site.
I'm also going to start a blog to teach people how to sew a basic ballgown. I did this once before, in 2002, but I know so much more now. Also, there is actually a decent commercial pattern available now: Burda 7879. If you're interested in following along, go order it from Sewing Patterns and check out my Sew along with Laura blog for more information.
